On Monday when Ben emailed Hannah was the only one home so they got to have a nice little "chat":
Ben: hello?
Hannah: hello?
B: hi mom!!!
H: this is Hannah
B: well then Hi Hannah! like a week ago, me and another gringo were talking and I said "rich people problems." remember that?
H: oh my gosh!! i totally remember that!!!
B: trust me, it never works here. there's no rich people. it's more like "well that problem wasn't so bad."
[sweating emoji] this is me every day from sweat
H: haha!!! :) you will get used to it. (I hope.)
B: what's up?
H: nothing really. i have been plain jane for a while.
B: listo para navidad?
H: I know you said christmas but i didn't understand anything else :)
B: ready for christmas?
it's weird, every first email i type I forget it's supposed to be in english at first.
H: haha! i just looked it up, and DEFINITELY
B: si usted quierre, yo puedo hablar cien por cien in espanol, esta bien, o quiere ingles?
H: ummmmmm.......
i actually picked out quite a few words in that
B: haha! it says, if you want i could talk 100 percent in spanish. is that ok, or do you want english?
what words did you pick out?
H: i sort of want english!
B: haha! sounds good.
H: i picked out: you, i, talk, spanish, good, and english.
B: :) que bueno
H: you're in Tela right?
B: yup. why?
H: just wondering, it looks gorgeus. and I don't care I spelled that wrong.
B: yeah. parts are incredible, other parts not so much. did you see my pics this week?
H: some, not all. i will though. i am on winter break so i have more time now.
B: did you see my video? i realized after that I was talking in spanish, and that's a problem for you guys.
H: haha! no i haven't seen your video but now i am super excited to see it. that is so funny but awesome you are comfortable in spanish. which video is it?
B: it's funny, i forgot that this isn't my language for a little while. i'm far from perfect at spanish, but i know enough to get around. it's a video of me in the jungle. it's the first video.
H: it is weird how people learn english. it seems so fast but english is a very hard language. i will watch it later. it says i have to download it to view it.
B: oh, it's cool.
H: i saw pics though, that is amazing. here in Idaho it's like oh yeah....we don't have monkeys or jungles.........we have potatoes though!
B: and you have SNOW! the people here are literally confused on how snow works.
H: it snowed and then it melted and then it rained and rained and rained and then it snowed again and then it melted and rained and rained and rained.
we had a fast for moisture and it TOTALLY worked! Yay!!
do u listen to music while you are doing stuff?
B: sometimes. usually music or a conference talk. everyone listens to them in spanish, but if it's in spanish, it's a translator person, and their voice isn't the same. be grateful you get to hear the voices of the prophets, its a huge blessing i never thought about until now.
H: wow. cool. i never thought of that. Where do you hope to go to in Honduras?
B: i want to go to roatan. It's the island, with english and tourists and its clean. sounds great! but only 4 missionaries out of like 150 are there at a time, so i'm not sure i'll ever go.
H: whoa. weird, where did you hear of this lovely place I want to go to on vacay?
B: everyone talks about it. it's the one good spot in the whole country, so everyone, missionaries and locals, talk about it. i think it would be cool to go there for my honeymoon. is that planning too far in advance??
H: wow. ok.....wow. you are hilarious.
that pic of you and the little boy smiling his little face off is the cutest thing I have ever seen. like ever.
B: you haven't picked your honeymoon spot? i'd pick one now if I were you.
Yeah, that kid's awesome, his name's Eric.
H: i was thinking barbados. i took a quiz somewhere that said it was my happy place.
B: he talks really funny. his spanish cracks me up. he pronounces eric as e-ic.
i don't know a thing about barbados. is it cool?
H: i have no idea what it is or where. i just took that quiz.
B: well that's good.
H: it sounds tropical. :)
B: you have to be careful with tropical. honduras is tropical. i'm finding out all the bad parts of it-- sweat, bugs, mud, all that. but it's super awesome. the pictures do it zero justice.
H: i'm sure it is AMAZING!
i looked up barbados. It is in the carribbean and it's capital is a cruise ship stop soooo i am convinced it is pretty awesome.
B: sounds awesome. look up roatan. i bet it's sweet too.
i think the mission has made me a lot more forthcoming. like i don't care AT ALL what people think when I say something. like my honeymoon. it's weird, but good.
H: haha! i am not sure if i am ok with you talking about your honeymoon but i really do want a sister so a sister in law would be fine.
B: well we have to wait at least 2 years, so yeah.
H: well still can't wait. ya gotta pick one that likes me though ok? we are gonna go do stuff together, like cool stuff.
B: sounds good :)
H: roatan looks beautiful!!!!!!!
