Semana Santa (Holy Week)--March 28, 2016

This week has been pretty hard.  It was Semana Santa this week, or Holy Week.  They celebrate Easter for a week here.  The problem is, that means no one wants to hear us.  NO ONE.  We contacted for most of the week, and got nowhere.  Oh well.
Church was really good.  I loved feeling the Spirit and seeing the people understand the importance of Christ.  I don't have a lot of spiritual experiences this time, but I have a couple of funny ones.

A 90 year old lady sat next to me on the bus one day.  She was really close to the open door, and on a seat about 3x4 inches, so she grabbed my knee to stay in the bus.  Then she started talking to me.  She's soooo funny.  She said she was glad that the person keeping her in the bus was such an attractive man, and laughed pretty hard.  Then she started telling me about her life, and her kids and all that.  Just a really funny lady, lots of jokes.  Then a song came on the radio, and she started swaying to the music and all that.  She asked me to dance with her so I started swaying and stuff too.  She laughed and then I explained that we were missionaries.  She lives super far away, but fun to talk to!
A different dude we talked to told us it's pointless to teach him because he never remembers anything.  He doesn't know his age, or birthday, or address--nothing.  He doesn't know what month or year it is right now, all he knows it there's "6" days in the week!  But we taught him a little.  Super easy going guy.

A random spiritual experience that we had--we met a lady who's mom died last week.  She was willing to listen, but didn't talk almost at all.  We explained the plan of salvation and all that.  Afterwards, she said that she always prefers to close herself up and ignore everyone else.  But this time was different.  She really liked our message, and felt that we are different from the other churches.

It's been really cool to be in a country that so universally recognizes Christ and His atonement.  That's been really nice, even though we didn't do much this week.  It sounds like you guys had an awesome Easter.  I miss all the family traditions we have, but it's great to see you guys having fun.  It's soo incredible that we have the Atonement in our lives.  I've never understood how powerful it is until now.  I know I'll never understand it perfectly, but I know that was literally the most important moment in history.  I can't imagine a purer example of love or sacrifice.  I feel like if the world as a whole could understand it, we would have much fewer problems.

The toilet here doesn't flush, so we just pour water in it after we're done.  My other two toilets both flushed, but it was pretty common to not have water, so we had to pour water manually.  The showers are always cold water, and have always been just a nozzle thing sticking out of the wall.  I would definitely take a hot shower, but I've never had one.

I really like this area, but it is super poor. We take the bus twice a day, at least.  The office elders live really close, so that's fun.  They're all really cool, and humble.  It's Hansen (my ZL from Miramar), Solis, Aldrich, Ruelas, Ramirez, and Perez.

The ZL's actually showed us the changes for this week already.  I don't know why, but that was GREAT.  Me and Garnica are both staying.  The ZL Adams is going and is being replaced by Wilks!  Yes!

You should know, I can't even begin to describe my love for you guys.  haha!  But yeah, I love you guys a ton.  Thanks for everything.
I love you guys!  Enjoy Easter!

ps--I'M SO EXCITED FOR CONFERENCE!!!!!

a frowny face of dead mosquitoes in the shower.
That's pretty unfortunate.

Bugs and worms swimming around in
the water we wash clothes in.  Yeah.
Our Easter dinner.  It was also the birthday of Hermana Rivera!
So that was fun.
She didn't know that were were eating dinner
there as well, so we bought a cake on Saturday, then
went a little early, and gave her a surprise party thing.

A Christ reenactment thing.  There's Jesus with his cross and
soldiers and they read bits of the bible.  Pretty cool.

I made french toast!!

A free watch I got with my deodorant!  I also got a selfie stick that way!

Endor in the Bible Dictionary--just like in Star Wars!  :)
