--How do you feel about having left on your mission right out of high school?
Nothing in college could have prepared me for life in Honduras, so I feel good about it
--There are 180 missionaries and President bought all the elders a tie for Christmas, don't know what the sisters got.
--We eat breakfast at the house every day and then Burger King or Wendy's for lunch. Dinner with members about twice a week, always baleadas.
--We drive a Nissan Nevada pick up truck
--Best part about serving in the office--the privileges: AC, car, being with the president, all good missionaries, get to attend lots of meetings with the president
--Worst part--don't get to teach as much. Really miss meeting, helping, teaching people.
--P Day--almost always soccer or basketball
--No one has address, everyone just describes where they live using landmarks. "the house next to the pulperia"
-- Christmas Eve is the big holiday there, much bigger than Christmas. Tons of fireworks and tamales and chicken sandwiches and drinking
--I'm definitely not sick of the food, more like I'm totally used to it. I wants tortillas and rice with every meal! Our family would eat 60-70 tortillas a day in Honduras. Just take a bit of tortilla, every other bit when you eat.
--the hospital he was in was nice and expensive and clean
--What do people do for jobs?
The women work in tortillerias and the men work in in manufacturing plants, manual labor. In rural areas they work on farms--Chiquita banana farms and sugar cane
Mother's Day 2017
--Do you have a new suit?
I just found a suit coat that fits better. I wear it with mismatched gray pants.
--Where do you hope to be transferred to for your last change?
I'd love to go to Los Angeles but they don't have any gringos there. Satelite would be good.
--Have you seen tarantulas?
Yes!
--What is your favorite thing about Honduras?
The people, they're so nice and sincere. And the food.
--What food do you miss from home the most?
Maybe a good hamburger, like 5 Guys
--What are you looking forward to doing when you get home?
Going to the temple
--What's your favorite thing about President Carlisle?
So funny and smart
--How's Guadarrama?
I love Guad!! Favorite comp!
--How are the West missionaries?
Super cool guys
--Losing the gringos in your mission?
Yep
--Have you gained any weight back?
Maybe 10 pounds. Weigh about 160 now. [He weighed close to 200 when he left.]
--How's the heat?
So hot. With the humidity it's insane. If it's 97 degrees, with humidity, it's like 116. It's LITERALLY too hot to live here!
--What's been your favorite area?
San Juan--the people are so nice. It's kinda dangerous but exciting!
--Favorite P Day activities?
Hikes, going to the soccer stadium, seeing waterfalls
--Service you've done lately?
Removed a giant tree
--Investigators right now?
Yeah, we've got quite a few
--Talk about food
Grossest things: boiled bananas, pig feet, cow intestine soup--all soups of Honduras! Chicken feet weren't bad. Armadillo was the weirdest but not bad.
Haven't had a cook since Tela. Prefer not to, because it's expensive.
Some areas the members feed you all the time, or even investigators; others areas they don't.
--Talk about laundry:
About half the time I've had a laundry person and the other half I've had to do it myself.
--Do you use the Permethrin?
Yes
